I make data useful.

Who am I?
My name is Conor Curley. I am a Data Scientist & Data Strategist.
Why have such a minimalist site?
I am no website designer, so I’ll leave the bells and whistles to the pros.
Why have a site at all?
I wanted my own piece of digital real estate for freelance consulting projects, to experiment with for deploying applications and also for hosting some of my posts.

About me.
My experience spans over 10 years leading the delivery of end-to-end data science projects and Data Science / Advanced Analytics teams. I am passionate about solving complex problems with data science and building useful tools with data.
My career has for the most part, been within the consulting industry delivering data products for global clients across several different industries – FMCG, Banking, Automotive, Insurance, Energy, Mining, Government and Digital services.
Data Science (and now Machine Learning/AI) as a field has exploded in popularity during my career and I am lucky to have seen its evolution from niche modelling for specialist teams to it receiving significant investment from almost every organisation.

Data Science Specialist with a breath of knowledge across other disciplines.
The hard truth is that 80% of data science / machine learning projects fail to be implemented, becoming an expertiment that although is interesting; don’t solve the core problem thus are not valuable.
If all you have is a hammer, you see each problem as a nail. Many data science specialists make this mistake, they have invested years developing skills which help solve problems with a particular approach however they often don’t question if this approach is best for solving the root cause of a problem. Effort is wasted solving the wrong problem or failing to think creatively about solving this problem.
Having a broad problem solving toolkit is essential to be an effective problem solver, this means havving both technical and non-technical skills with an ability to be cognitiivly flexable to understand what you know and identify knowledge gaps.
Working in smaller organisations for the past 5 years has enabled me to wear many hats – project mangement, business strategy, sales, team leader, workshop facitilation, budget forecasting, copy writer, marketing , product development, UX design. Some I am more skiiled in than others but each exposure to a new area has broadened my critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
